I am a journalist who writes about education, politics, women's issues, cities, and public health, for publications like Slate, The Atlantic, and The Nation. I am also a Schwartz Fellow at the New America Foundation and a Puffin fellow at The Nation Institute. I am at work on a book about the political history of American public school teaching.
Previously, I was an associate editor at The Daily Beast and The American Prospect. I graduated from Brown University and grew up in beautiful Ossining, New York, alongside the Hudson River.
